The cloud for legacy systems

Move an old system to the cloud?

Cloud migration may be the right path, but the cloud does not solve old problems on its own. We help you decide what should be moved, what needs to change first and how to reduce the risk.

What problems does moving to the cloud solve?

The cloud can make it easier to manage operations, capacity, backups and certain types of changes. But the benefits depend on the system you have and the problem you are trying to solve.

If the system is hard to maintain because of old code, poor documentation or complex dependencies, those problems do not disappear just because the system is moved.

What needs to be modernised first?

Legacy systems may have been built for an environment that looks very different from today’s cloud platforms. Some parts can be moved as they are. Others need to be upgraded or changed first.

That is why we start by understanding the system, its dependencies and which parts are most critical to the business.

Move the whole system or parts of it?

A cloud migration doesn’t have to mean moving everything at once. In many cases, it’s better to start with some parts and leave others where they are until there’s a clear reason to change them.

That can make the migration less risky and benefit the business sooner.

Reduce risk during migration

An important system often needs to keep working while changes are being made. That is why the migration needs to be planned so that operations, integrations and data can be verified step by step.

We prioritise a controlled transition over a major technology shift where everything changes at once.

When the cloud is not the right answer

Sometimes there is no clear business value in moving a system. If the current solution is stable, secure and reasonably easy to maintain, it may be better to leave it as it is.

The goal is not to move to the cloud. The goal is a system that works for the business and can be maintained over time.
